Segall is researching approaching to human immortality such as freezing the human body, transplanting many organs and other approaches. Segall becomes a follower of Timothy Leary and researches topics such as using cybernetics to program a human into a computer. Segall is working on a chemical he has found in the body called tryptophan, and thinks that life can be extended by depriving the body of this chemical.
