Part Seven: Amari Summary

The next morning, Dr. Hoskins loads the slaves into his wagon promising Mr. Derby that he'll take them to the slave auction and bring back the money they earn. They drive silently down the road for several hours before Dr. Hoskins pulls the wagon off to the side of the road. He turns to the slaves and tells them that he won't be bringing them to the auction. He doesn't agree with slavery, and after witnessing the horrible double-murder the night before, his conscious has called for him to help set these three children free. All he can offer the children is a small purse of money and a promise that he'll give them a few days head start before telling Mr. Derby that they were attacked by highwaymen and that they escaped.
