Becky arrives home and informs her concerned parents that she is being stalked by a man named Derek Smeath but that she does not want to tell the police, she simply wishes to get away for a bit. Her parents agree to keep things quiet.

Becky's father reads an article in the paper about the takeover of Flagstaff Life and the fact that investors will be getting a windfall. Becky is pleased, remembering that Martin and Janice have invested in Flagstaff for years.

The following afternoon, Becky's happiness is shattered when Martin and Janice tell Becky that they switched funds before the takeover and will not be getting any money.
