Essay #46 takes readers into the beginning of the second hundred pages of the book. Another anecdote is recounted. This one is about surnames. Henry the duke of Normandy - son of King Henry II of England hosted a feast for nobles of France. He had the guests divided and grouped by surname. Through doing so, it was discovered that they had more than 100 Williams' in attendance.

In yet another rather drastic change of topic, the author tells about war horses. This occurs in Essay #48. There was a Spanish Order of Knights the members of which were all under orders to refrain from ever riding mules. No explanation is given, which does not mean there isn't one. The information about war horses continues and is of differing natures. Human soldiers did at desperate times resort to...
