Letters 52-58 Summary

The first letter from Nettie tells Celie that she just needed to get away from Alfonso. She also explains that when she left the house, Alfonso followed, complimenting her and buttering her up. She tried to keep moving, but when she stopped, he tried to rape her. She fought him off and hurt him. He was so angry that he told Nettie that she would never hear from Celie again and vice versa. Nettie also tells Celie that she went to the reverend and his wife like Celie advised, and she met Olivia.

Nettie tells Celie that she hopes to hear from her soon, and she thinks of her all the time. The reverend's wife's name is Corrine, and the kids are Olivia and Aaron. Corrine is married to Samuel, a very religious man......
