Letters 49-51 Summary

Celie is holding a letter from Nettie telling her that she is alive and hoping that Mr. _____ is giving Celie her letters. She also tells Celie that her kids are alive. One night prior to getting the letter, Shug asks about Nettie, and Celie tells her that she thinks Nettie is dead, because she has not gotten any correspondence from her. Shug asks if a letter from Nettie would have any funny looking stamps on it, because she and Mr. _____ went to the mailbox one day and he took a letter like that and put it into his pocket.

Celie asks Shug why she wants to know about Nettie, and Shug tells her that Nettie is the only thing Celie has ever loved besides Shug.

Celie begins to get upset, because Shug has.....
