Nettie is staying with Celie, because she ran away from home. It is apparent that Mr. _____ still likes Nettie. He dresses nicely and joins them on the porch every night. He also is always complimenting Nettie, though she passes off all of her compliments to Celie. After a while, though, Mr. _____ realizes that Nettie is not interested, so he tells her she has to leave. Celie tells her to find the woman and Reverend in town that have Olivia. Though Olivia promises to write, Celie receives no letters. She thinks Nettie is dead.

Mr. _____'s sisters, Carrie and Kate, come to visit. They give Celie a lot of compliments about how well she keeps up her house and how much better she is at it than the last wife was. Celie really.....
