This poem deals with one of the original Magi, recounting his journey to witness Christ's birth. Looking back, he recalls the trials and tribulations of the journey from the East to Bethlehem. He concludes that the journey was worth it as they witnessed the birth of the Savior, and that Christ's birth began the procession to Christ's death and humankind's hope. The Magi of the poem tells of how when he returned home to his own land, he saw that his people were still worshiping false gods. He says witnessing the birth of Christ makes him yearn for a death that is the gate into eternal.....
