Chapters 1-6 Summary

In Chapter 1, Katrina Svenson is doing her morning chores in her grandmother's coffeehouse, Anna's Old World Scandinavian Coffeehouse, when she sees a homeless man sleeping in the alley. Katrina is scared because this has never happened before, so she calls her best friend, Vincent, to come over. Before Vincent arrives, Katrina decides the homeless man might simply need a break, so she takes him a cup of coffee, some day-old pastries, and a bag of chocolate coffee beans. When Vincent arrives, he offers to chase the homeless man off, but when he opens the door, the man is gone.
