Summary

In Chapter 12," Masquerade,” Tessa and Will arrive at Benedict's estate. It is dark, and Tessa believes they have the wrong place or date until she knocks on the gate and passes through the glamour spell that is keeping the mundanes from seeing what is happening. Someone opens the gate and lets Tessa, who appears as Jessie, inside. She soon sees the double serpent symbol, indicating the Pandemonium Club's presence. Tessa enters the main room where the ball is being held, and sees all sorts of demons. There are clockwork creatures along the walls, as if standing as guards.

Nate greets her, believing she is Jessie. He is well dressed and seems sophisticated. Tessa knows he has always dreamed of being and living like this. They dance and Tessa is glad they danced together as children so she does not feel awkward. Tessa notices...
