Summary

Lev and Kolya walked through the cold in Chapter 25. Lev suffered from fatigue, hunger, and the cold, but Kolya seemed comfortable. Then Kolya told Lev the rest of his story, “The Courtyard Hound.” The old man, Radchenko, refused to leave his building for seven years. However, one day he saw a large old dog outside. Radchenko threw food out his window for him, and at that moment, the church bells began to ring for noon. Then the dog started to come outside Radchenko’s window every day at noon, and every day Radchenko fed him savory meats. One day, the dog was lying dead outside the window. Radchenko feared that no one would bury the stray dog. So he left his apartment for the first time in seven years to bury him.
