Faerie bell

A Faerie bell is given to Clary by the Seelie Queen’s servant, Kaelie, in the previous novel (“City of Fallen Angels”). The bell is meant to bring Clary to the presence of the Seelie Queen should Clary decide to consort or need a favor. Seeking to free Jace from the spell which binds him to Sebastian, Clary rings the bell, and is transported, along with Isabelle, Simon, and Alec, to the Seelie Queen’s presence.

Faerie rings

Faerie rings are a set of two faerie-fashioned rings which allow the wearers to telepathically communicate with one another. The Seelie Queen demands these as payment for helping Clary. Clary agrees to steal the set kept by the New York Institute. But instead of giving them to the Seelie Queen, she uses them herself to stay in touch with Simon while she infiltrates Jace and Sebastian.
