Chapter 17, And Cain Rose Up – When Clary comes to, she is in the high rise condo complex. She realizes the rune Jace drew knocked her out. She then notices a rune on Jace’s chest, and realizes he is under a spell. Jace brings Clary before Lilith and Simon. Clary realizes Lilith is the demon working in Jace’s dreams. To demonstrate her power, Lilith orders Jace to cut Clary just a little. He obeys instantly. Lilith explains that Clary has been the catalyst for everything: Simon to die, Jace to live, and Sebastian/Jonathon to be reborn. Lilith’s blood flows in Sebastian. She says she is his his mother.
