Chapter 7 Summary

Brian has been drinking for a few days. When Emily comes home from work, Brian and Nan are arguing about Nan studying in her bedroom. He tells her to do her studying downstairs. She wants to know how she can study in all this noise. He tells her he will hit her if she keeps on. Nan is unafraid. He wants to know if he is working hard only to have her turn out that way. She says she has not done anything and just wants to go upstairs so she can study for her degree, which will make him happy. He tells her to go up there and leave them alone. Nan tells her mother to let her know if she needs help, and Nan goes upstairs.
