Chapter 6 Summary

Frank Hegarty's body is at a church in Dun Laoghaire. Mother Francis, who stays in Dublin to deal with Mother Clare, comes to the church. Jack sees Nan there. She wants to know if he has seen Benny. He says she was not able to be there tonight because she has to go home on the bus. Jack comments that it must be difficult for her. Nan says that Benny is foolish. Jack asks what Nan thinks Benny is supposed to do, and Nan replies that she should stand up for herself. Looking at Nan, he knows she would do that. He says that Benny stood up to Sean, and Nan counters that anyone can stand up to him.

Benny introduces Nan to Eve in the hospital. She hopes Eve likes Nan because Nan.....
