The year is 1957. Benny and Eve are at Healy's secretly looking at a boy. Being showy is a sin in town. Mrs. Healy, a widow now, approaches Benny and Eve. Eve says Mrs. Healy does not like them being grown. She wants to tell them what to do. Benny says she must sense that they do not feel grown, and Dublin will sense it too.
