Chapter 2 Summary

The year is 1957. Benny and Eve are at Healy's secretly looking at a boy. Being showy is a sin in town. Mrs. Healy, a widow now, approaches Benny and Eve. Eve says Mrs. Healy does not like them being grown. She wants to tell them what to do. Benny says she must sense that they do not feel grown, and Dublin will sense it too. Eve says they should rehearse in Dublin for a couple of days so that they will not look foolish. Benny says it will be difficult to get permission to just hang out in Dublin. Eve says it would not be hanging out if Benny says she is there to get school stuff. Eve's voice becomes depressed.
