Summary

In Chapter 81, Zelie and the elders raise all the dead at Ibadan. Zelie gives an inspiring speech to the maji about taking power from the monarchy, but she realizes that the magical connection between them is draining them slowly and will eventually kill them all. According to Mama Agba, she must sacrifice someone she loves in order to become a true center.

In Chapter 82, Zelie heads to the cellars to see Amari, but instead runs into Roen fighting with his band of mercenaries about false information. After they leave, Zelie asks him if he is okay. They kiss and flirt, and then Roen says he is coming with her wherever she goes.
