Summary

In Chapter 41, Zelie attacks Inan despite how much she loves him. She blames him for her father’s death. He does nothing to defend himself as she stabs him in the side. She is about to kill him, but then one of the youngest rebels, Mazeli, runs into the room with Ojore chasing after him. Inan throws Zelie aside and blocks Ojore so the maji can both escape.

In Chapter 42, Ojore is angry and confused by Inan’s actions, but he does not tell the queen what happened. She says that the temple must be destroyed. Inan argues with her, but then relents and agrees to have it burnt.
