Summary

In Chapter 21, Inan goes to the throne room and sees the advisors. Villagers come in and tell him that they are starving. His advisors tell him that the rebels burnt the markets and the palace has only two-months worth of supplies. Inan orders his men to divide up the supplies and ration out food to everyone. General Jokoye, tells Inan that he is not finding true solution. A young maji rebel breaks into the room and steals bread. Inan lets her keep the bread and tells her to return to her people and tell them that any maji who joins him will be given double rations and shelter. His advisors are furious, but he does not back down.

In Chapter 22, the elders welcome Zelie with open arms, but largely ignore Amari. Word of Inan’s attempt at peace arrives. Zelie tells the elders...
