Rowan

Rowan is a 16-year-old girl who has grown up in the self-contained city of Eden, which everyone believes to be the only inhabitable place on Earth. Rowan believes she is the younger of a set of twins and her brother, Ash, is the fortunate one who gets to live a normal life. Rowan grows up inside the walls of their family home with only her parents and Ash for company. She lives vicariously through Ash, begging him for the details of his encounters with his friend Lark. Ash complies, but cannot fully understand Rowan's loneliness and desperation.

On the night Rowan's mother is taking her to get lenses that will make her a legitimate member of Eden's society, she reveals that Rowan's father tried to abort one of the twins, and that he chose to abort the girl – Rowan. But he struck Ash instead, causing Ash's lung problems...
