As spring approaches, the sheriff and the rest of town become more aware of the murders that have taken place. They begin to search the mountainside for the bodies of the girls as well as the the murderer. The sheriff and the deputy sheriff go up to the mountain and search one of the missing cars. They look in the glove box and the trunk. They ask other locals questions about the couple. They wonder if there is anyway they could have simply run off together and eloped. Most people agree that the couple must have been killed or abducted and that they would have not run away.
