Act 3 Summary

This act takes place in the ballroom of the estate. Pishchik and Trofimov are discussing politics and Charlotta is trying to entertain others with card tricks. They are all waiting to hear the fate of the cherry orchard, for the auction was held that day. Lyubov is beside herself with anxiety. Tofimov tries to console her and tells her to be calm, look truth in the eye and be at peace.

What truth and what peace, she wants to know. He is too young to understand. He can look forward and nothing frightens him, and that's because life is still hidden from his young eyes.
