Charlie St. Cloud is only fifteen when he borrows a car without permission in an innocent attempt to show his brother some fun and ends up in an accident that takes his brother's life. Charlie makes a promise to his brother as they both are suspended somewhere between this world and the next that he will never leave him. When Charlie sees his brother shortly after the funeral, he becomes obsessed with the idea that if he does not meet his brother each day at sundown that his gift to be able to see him will disappear and he will be breaking his promise.
