Pages 149-205 Summary

Odrade knows there is a Bene Gesserit conscience; when Odrade asks who and what am I, Other Memories interfere. Odrade sees how close she is to losing her humanity. There are things a Reverend Mother will not do to save the Sisterhood. Odrade has not sought power; it is thrust on her. All who seek power are corruptible. Everything has a political element and the "separation of church and state" is a lie. The whole universe is searching for answers and mentats only find more questions. Only Reverend Mothers carry the original tradition, which they cannot force on unwilling people. That is why the Tyrant preserves the Bene Gesserit and why Odrade must now get to work.
