Summary

In Chapter 18, Celine and Pete meet with the local sheriff, Cam Travers, who was also the sheriff when Paul went missing. Travers agrees with Celine’s assessment that Paul was probably not killed by a bear. Travers also says that it seemed like the search and the post-search legal proceedings seemed rushed. Next, Celine and Pete interview Elbie Chicksaw, a tracking expert who consulted on the law enforcement search for Paul. However, at Elbie’s house, they’re greeted only by Elbie’s wife, who says that Elbie is on vacation. In Chapter 19, the narration exposits upon Hank’s investigation attempts, years ago, to try to track down his half sister.
