Birdie finally gets on a plane for Oakland at 3 p.m., after waiting at the airport most of the day. Before she gets on board, Birdie calls Dot. Her aunt is angry that Birdie has been missing for a day and a half. Dot asks Birdie to live with her permanently, but Birdie knows she has to find Cole and her father. She has tried her father's number six times, but there is never any answer.
