Chapter 8 Summary

Present: She describes a time she used to go into churches on impulse. She loved to look at the overly ornate and extravagant ones the bestpreferably Catholic. She especially looked for statues of saints and the Virgin Mary. She usually was disappointed with the Virgin Mary statues because they looked like lifeless dolls dressed up in blue and white.

It wasn't until she went to Mexico with her current husband, Ben, that she saw the most beautiful and meaningful Virgin Mary Statue. This Virgin's purpose is to restore what is lost. Elaine felt like praying to her, but she wasn't sure what to pray for or what to pin on the Virgin's black dress. She remembers when Cordelia made her feel like she was nothing.
