Chapter 4 Summary

Present: Elaine walks downtown and remembers the conversation she has with her husband Ben before coming to Toronto. Elaine doesn't want to go to her art retrospective. Ben tells her not to go, but she feels that she has to because of all the trouble that the people have gone through to work on this event. When Elaine arrives at the gallery she immediately dislikes the environment. Her paintings are being uncrated after being sent from their owners. She doesn't like to look at the pieces for long because she finds mistakes and wants to start over. Elaine feels out of place because she is wearing a powder blue jogging outfit and the other women in the gallery look more artistic and in fashion.
