Chapter 3 Summary

Present: Elaine is depressed the next morning. She can hardly get out of bed and getting ready takes great effort. She decides to buy a new dress for the art exhibit. While at the store, she tries on three dresses. She notices a young hand reaching under the dressing room stall grabbing her wallet out of her purse. She steps on the person's hand and she wants to scream Cordelia's name but she knows it's not her.

Flashback: Elaine remembers walking an odd path to catch the school bus. A girl names Carol becomes her friend and tells Elaine everything about herself and her family. Elaine is somewhat detached. Having a girlfriend is new territory for her. When she goes to Carol's house she sees many things she has never seen before. Carol has.....
