Part Two: Monster Hunt, Chapters 34-41 Summary

Cross and Sampson drive out to Wilmington, Delaware to speak with Soneji's ex-wife. When they arrive, they receive no answer to their knock. Sampson walks around the back of the house to check the back door. Sampson finds something grotesque in the doghouse and calls Cross back to look. When Cross sees Soneji's ex-wife's head in the doghouse, he immediately thinks of the couple's little girl. Cross breaks into the house and begins to storm through the rooms searching for the child. Sampson and Cross find nothing in the house, not even the body of Soneji's ex-wife. However, they do find the child alive and well in the basement.

The next day Cross goes to Lorton Prison to talk with an inmate who knew Soneji. Cross learns that Soneji had wanted Cross to...
