Isabelle McAllister

Isabelle McAllister is one of the main characters in "Calling Me Home." She is a 90-year-old white woman as she tells the story of when she was 17 years old and fell in love with a young black man. Isabelle's disposition can be divided into two time periods: before and after her marriage to Robert.

Before Isabelle and Robert marry, Isabelle is a spunky, vivacious young woman who loves to play with her friends and longs to be free from her mother's strictly imposed rules. She tells big and small lies to get our from under her mother's thumb, and always does so in the name of independence.
