Chapter 3 The Island Summary

Mafatu wakes up the next morning and remembers the crazy events that led him to the beach on which he now lays. He believes that he has been able to cheat Moana, the Sea God. Again, he surveys the situation. He is still weak and thirsty, and now, he realizes that he is wounded. He must look after the wound soon, as coral wounds are poisonous. He also needs to find food, but is not yet strong enough to climb one of the many coconut trees on the island. On top of all that, he needs to build a fire and a shelter. Despite the dire situation, Mafatu is filled with a sense of accomplishment. Maui has carried him to safety, and he has overcome his fear.

Mafatu is unsure which island he is on, but there are no apparent signs of human...
