Warren Tracey

Warren Tracey is Paul’s father. He is a personification of evil. Warren drinks, and he unfaithful to his wife. He also hits his wife and children. Warren becomes hated not only by his family, but also by the baseball community when he intentionally hits Joe in the head with a fastball, ending Joe’s career. It is suggested that Warren was both angry with Joe for showing off after hitting a home run and jealous because Paul admired Joe. Paul describes finding the scrapbook he was keeping on Joe downstairs in the basement room where his father often spent a good deal of time. It appeared Warren was looking at the book and had seen the autographed photo of Joe that Paul had received.
