Caddie Woodlawn Related Titles/Adaptations
In 1944 Carol Ryrie Brink published Magical Melons, a sequel to Caddie Woodlawn. Magical Melons is a collection of short stories drawn from events in the life of the real Caddie. The stories take place from 1863 to 1866, while the first book covered a single year from 1864 to 1865. Magical Melons features a larger cast of characters, containing stories about Caddie's neighbors and her brothers and sisters. Because the stories lack the unifying perspective of the first book, no dominant theme emerges, and Caddie's character is not developed as well. But the style and tone of the sequel remain faithful to the original, rendering enjoyable accounts of the Woodlawns' continuing adventures.
In 1944 Brink also made Caddie Woodlawn into a stage play with the same title. The play has been performed by children's theater groups around the country and is presented every summer on the site...
