In chapter 16, Jean Claude uses his strength to bring Anita back from the attack of Padma. The Traveler takes Hannah's body to Willie's dismay and tells Jean Claude that he swears the council has not come to St. Louis to kill him. To prove this he tells Jean Claude to take his life strength back from Anita. Anita is worried because Jean Claude's heart has stopped beating. He has used all his reserve to help her.
