Chapters 16-20 Summary

In chapter 16, Jean Claude uses his strength to bring Anita back from the attack of Padma. The Traveler takes Hannah's body to Willie's dismay and tells Jean Claude that he swears the council has not come to St. Louis to kill him. To prove this he tells Jean Claude to take his life strength back from Anita. Anita is worried because Jean Claude's heart has stopped beating. He has used all his reserve to help her. Padma is angry but allows the couple to proceed. Anita does not want Jean Claude to take blood. It is too intimate an act, but he tells her to kiss him over his heart. Embarrassed, Anita does so anyway and can feel Jean Claude's strength return. They kiss, to the annoyance of Padma. The Traveler leaves Hannah, telling them he will see them later. Padma...
