  Plot Summary

  Chapter Summaries & Analysis

The book starts out at the beginning of the year with Bridget's New Year's resolutions. There are two columns that make up the chapter. The "I Will Not" column addresses four major areas: Men, money, drinking and smoking. Regarding her health, Bridget resolves not to drink excessively and to stop smoking. Regarding money, she resolves not to spend more than she has or waste money. The majority of the "I Will Not" column addresses her relationships with men, such as falling in love with all manner of dysfunctional men, having crushes rather than relationships and obsessing about her boss - Daniel Cleaver - whom she has a crush on. She also resolves not to pout about not having a boyfriend at all. (read more)
