Summary

In Chapter 6, “The Safest Place in the World” (88), Natsuko woke up to discover that she had gotten her period ten days early. She went back to bed and woke up again to find that Makiko was gone, but she remembered that Makiko had said she was going to meet an old friend before going to her consultation.

Natsuko apologized to Midoriko for not having made her breakfast, but Midoriko communicated that she had already eaten. Natsuko had bled onto her sheets. As she was scrubbing the sheets, Natsuko explained to Midoriko that blood only washed out with cold water.

Midoriko puzzles over how the eggs exit the ovaries without falling somewhere else. She thinks about how frightening it is that baby girls are born with eggs in their bodies.
