Chapter 19, Theme from 'A Summer Place' Summary

Patrick hopes to find another Eamon Faircroft type of individual who will take care of him. Braden's sixth customer, whom he later refers to as Silky String, shares Patrick's love of music. The pair discusses Vic Damone, The Girl from Ipanema, and old-fashioned music. They arrive at an unused industrial area and Silky String asks Patrick to take off his clothes, which he does. Silky String takes out a 'silky string' and begins strangling Patrick, and all Patrick can think about is a poem that Charlie had once read: "I want to paint two thousand dead birds crucified on a background of night..." Silky String violently kisses Patrick. A Mitzi Gaynor song plays on the radio - Patrick bites off a piece of Silky's ear and gouges his eyes. He dresses quickly and...
