Chapter 2 Summary

Professor Whitney Bannister is sixty-nine but looks ten years younger. He had continued as a professor in the physical science department at Haviland College in Vermont long after he had officially "retired" and given up department head. The secret of his vitality is that he keeps active - body and mind. It is his habit to remain at school and go through papers there. One evening Bekah Savage stops by to see him. She is a bright and beautiful young student. She is angry and hurt. She tells him that she got his note and that she'll be showing it to Dean Littleford in the morning.
