Summary

The chapter “Things Unsaid” resumes at school the next Monday. Paul is angry at Joni for having spent time with Chuck over the weekend, during the time of his own date with Noah. Despite Paul’s previous lack of interest in Ted, he actively defends Ted while talking with Joni. After school, Paul has a pre-arranged meeting with Kyle in an empty chemistry lab. Kyle again apologizes about the end of their relationship and explains that he is bisexual. Paul and Kyle agree that they will be friends.

The chapter “Pinball” opens by describing another idiosyncratic feature of the high school, which is that there is an oddsmaker named Rip who takes bets on the fates of the different relationships in the school.
