Summary

In "The Found Woman," Bertha Truitt was found in the Salford Cemetery by Joe Wear, an orphaned teenager who served as the cemetery watchman. She had with her a corset, a bowling ball, a candlepin, and fifteen pounds of gold. Joe thought she was one of the dead who had come back to life. So, at first, he only called down to her.

A black man named Leviticus Sprague who claimed to be a doctor joined Joe. Leviticus said he would check to see if the woman was alive, but Joe argued they should get another doctor.
