Vicki Bliss

Vicki Bliss is the main character in the story and the story is told from her point of view. Vicki has spent her whole life fighting perceptions that she cannot be intelligent because of her beauty although she works as a teacher at a small college. It is there that she meets Tony. Tony wants to marry Vicki but she is determined that marriage is not something she wants anything to do with. She explains that marriage is the way a man can acquire a free, full time maid. She seems to enjoy Tony's company and although she professes to want nothing to do with marrying him, it is obvious that the two are romantically involved.
