Summary

Bruce now commits to being a full-time musician. Not long after, he is drafted into the US Army for the War in Vietnam. However, his previous concussion from his motorcycle accident disqualifies him immediately after he fills out his paperwork. This narrow escape from the battlefield makes Bruce feel a sense of duty and connection to Vietnam war veterans later in life.

Bruce begins playing at the Upstage Club in New Jersey where he meets some of the members of his next band. Over time, the core of this band will go through several incarnations, eventually becoming the original E Street Band.
