Chapters 36 through 39 Summary

In Chapter thirty-six, Kylie is in town when she sees her father with a young woman who Kylie recognizes as his assistant who is still in college. She suddenly realizes this prompted her parents' divorce. Headed back to camp, Kylie tells Holiday she's not yet ready to go home after all. One evening Kylie goes to her cabin and discovers a lion on her bed. She immediately assumes it's Perry and begins yelling at the lion to leave. The soldier appears and tells Kylie the lion is real. He urges her not to panic and not to scream. She manages by focusing on the ghost of the soldier. He says his name is Daniel Brighton and he says he'd needed Kylie to know he "didn't have a choice" about dying. Kylie asks if her grandmother, who recently died, is in heaven...
