New York City

New York City is where the story begins. Cohen the Narrator rents a small office space there and has lived in NYC for years. He was there when the 9/11 attacks occurred and, since then, has seen the city changed by technology. What were once poor Jewish neighborhoods are now subject to gentrification. NYC hosts the remnants of Cohen the Narrator's crumbling personal and professional life. It is where he crams all of his belongings into his storage unit office and where his estranged wife, Rach, lives with her new boyfriend. It is a major hub for writers, but it is teeming with competition, including Cohen the Narrator's biggest competitor, Cal. Breaking free from the city allows Cohen the Narrator to grow as a person.
