Summary

Since he cannot locate the Arabess online, Cohen the Narrator tries to follow her throughout the chapter "9/10". He ends up tailing her from the hotel lobby to a mall. He starts losing track of her since he cannot distinguish her easily from the other Arab women. Therefore, he puts white chalk on his hand and pursues her throughout the mall. He watches the women and waits until they leave. He then tells the reader that language is only passed on so that human beings can claim possession, including over one another. That being said, he finally marks the Arabess with his hand. She is, in his mind, "caught, contained" (152).

Cohen the Narrator keeps monitoring the women as they gaze at their images in a monitor. They adjust themselves as he is approached by a salesman in search of commission. When Cohen the Narrator...
