Summary

Black Panther is the ancestral ceremonial title of T'Challa, the King of Wakanda. Wakanda, an African nation, is the most technologically advanced society in the world. It sits on a large deposit of vibranium, an extremely rare natural resource. Wakanda has long prided itself on having never been invaded or conquered but recently has endured a series of disasters - a flood which killed thousands, a coup orchestrated by villain Dr. Doom, and an invasion by the intergalactic villain Thanos. At the start of issue one, T'Challa has returned home after an extended time away where he worked as a member of superhero teams such as the Avengers and the Ultimates. T'Challa's sister Shuri, who had been serving as both Queen and Black Panther while T'Challa was away, died defending Wakanda against Thanos's army.

Upon his return to Wakanda, T'Challa visits The Great Mound...
