Summary

In Chapter 16, May and Lu become fast friends and they convince Ev to go with them to Flat Rocks to go swimming one day. After they spread their towels, May opens her copy of Paradise Lost, making sure to tuck in the letters to her mother in the back of the book. Ev leaves right after lunch and May can't help but notice Lu's furtive glances at a boy named Owen swimming with some of Lu's cousins. As the day wears on, more and more of the Winslows come to Flat Rocks to swim and sun. At dinner that night, Indo asks May about what she has found in the archives and if she is interested in inheriting Indo's cottage. Indo reveals that she's not looking only for the manila folder, but for anything untoward but May doesn't have a clue what that...
