Act 2, Scene 1 Summary

This scene opens in a cheap hotel room later that same day. Eugene and Carney are seated while Selridge paces; they all look nervous. Wykowski has been in the room with the prostitute for almost a half-hour and they are theorizing about why he is taking so long. Eugene has obviously never had sex, even though he does not actually say he is a virgin, and Carney and Selridge tease him about his lack of experience. Selridge asks Eugene how many positions there are; when Eugene says he knows, Selridge, who cannot wait to show off his experience, proudly tells Eugene that there are seventeen positions and he has tried them all. Eugene tells him that he is wrong: there are at least fifty-two positions; he saw a dirty deck of.....
