This scene opens in a cheap hotel room later that same day. Eugene and Carney are seated while Selridge paces; they all look nervous. Wykowski has been in the room with the prostitute for almost a half-hour and they are theorizing about why he is taking so long. Eugene has obviously never had sex, even though he does not actually say he is a virgin, and Carney and Selridge tease him about his lack of experience. Selridge asks Eugene how many positions there are; when Eugene says he knows, Selridge, who cannot wait to show off his experience, proudly tells Eugene that there are seventeen positions and he has tried them all.
