Chapters 1-2, The Thing Begins, A Private in the Infantry Summary

Chapter one begins by setting the scene for the men of Bravo. The reader learns that it's Thanksgiving Day and that the men of Bravo are drinking heavily in the back of a limo after a game. The first character introduced is Billy, who needs to drink because being bombarded by citizens about being in the military, God, war, etc. Another character, Sgt. Dime, is introduced when he exclaims joy at the sight of their white hummer limo. As everyone enjoys the accommodations of the limo, the other characters are introduced, including Holliday, Lake, Crack, A-bort, Sykes, Lodis, and Mango.
